Condition: Excellent Top left corner cropped for the original
fitting, one minute chip just above bottom right
corner, some very slight glaze losses/wear to the
tip of the rim, very minor surface marks but
overall excellent and brilliantly glazed. Style/technique: Art nouveau majolica An unusual design another art nouveau and
classical fusion and illustrative of the designs
of the times. Virtually pure art nouveau in the
floral elements just a hint of classicism and
with a shield shaped cartouche contained an
embossed crown and wreath. Fabulous and quite
rare colours, really great mid blue ground,
grey/mauve in the cartouche and natural colours
for the flowers. Unusually for Rhodes this small group bore no
pattern numbers so not possible to place it in
the timeline from that information, clearly late
edwardian from the style. I suspect this was
made for the coronation of George V in 1911 so
would have been made late in 1910 or early
1911. Versos very clean, typical Rhodes rails,
embossed England.
