Rare Tube Line and Transfer Print Commemorative Tile

  • Style/technique: Commemorative, tube line and transfer print
  • Manufacturer: Henry Richards
  • Pattern number: 4250
  • Dimensions: 6" x 6"
  • Date: 1910/11

A pretty commemorative tile with a colourful transfer print and very pretty soft coloured glazes in the tube lining. The coronation King George V and Queen Mary took place in 1911.

The tile is incredibly rare for several reasons. Commemorative tiles are few and far between, Henry Richards mostly made majolica tiles and tiles decorated with a combination of transfer print and tube line are near non-existent. The transfer is of very good quality with a good range of bright colours, in combination with a hand decorated art nouveau tube lined border it makes a very individual tile.

Very small chip top left corner, a tiny chip on the bottom edge near the left corner and a very tiny chip on the bottom right corner, a little wear on the ribbon on the print, other extremely light surface marks. Very clean and bright.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
