Style: Victorian Pictorial Transfer Print Manufacturer: Maw & Co Dimensions: 6" x 6" Date: circa 1885   Aesop's Fables are one of the most popular literary series for inspiring artists, perhaps second only to the plays of William Shakespeare. This is one of Maws series of twelve, designed for them by C O Murray, depicting the eternal tale of 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf'. The design likely originated from the late 1870's but the patented lock back indicates a slightly later manufacturing date.
Condition: Very fine Price: £150 (approx $295) Ref: 01414 The tile has a number of very small glaze chips around the edges. The largest mark near the middle of the left side is mostly a factory fault with a little wear on the very edge. Another factory fault is the blow hole showing as a black speck on the digger's trousers. The tile is very clean and glaze has high brilliance. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
