'The Black Knight Exchanges Buffets With Friar Tuck', from the Ivanhoe series designed by Thomas Allen, who learnt his trade at Mintons before moving to Wedgwood in 1875. The series is rare and Austwick suggests there were 10 different pictures but I would be surprised if there are not 12. These designs were primarily done for tableware, 10" plates, as were many of their tile designs, there are more often 12 place settings in tableware sets rather than 10.

Condition: Excellent

Price: £165 (approx $325)

Ref: 01467

The tile has a clearly visible large chip, several small/tiny edge chips and a little black speckling under the glaze not uncommon on Wedgwood tiles. The print is nicely crisp and well defined and the glaze is bright, overall a very nice tile.

UK Special Delivery £174

US and World Airsure £185

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 570 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
