One of a series landscapes the engraving often attributed to William Wise made by Mintons around 1885. This tile was purpose made as a trivet and is an early example dating from soon after the designs were created and before Mintons adopted the practice of rounding off corners and edges by hand.

The Royal Mile in Edinburgh leads to Holyrood Palace, it was originally founded as a monastery in 1128 and is The Queen's official Scottish residence. The ruins of the monastery, reputed to have been built by King David, can be seen behind the house. The house has witnessed many important events and has been used by many of the important figures in Scottish and British history and is still used today for important governmental and diplomatic events. There is wear to all the edges most notably on the top of the right side. There is also some rubbing but only visible when the tile is viewed tilted at an angle. The tile is very clean and displays well.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
