A most unusual tile the stylised floral design having
a somewhat gothic feel in a good range of colours. The
taupe background is unusual and two colours have been
used for the outline.
The Cuerda Seca technique used a wet slip as the
outline but differs from tube line or slip trailed in
that the medium for the line was oil rather than water
based. The oily line resisted the water based glazes and
the outline is usually lower than in tube line decoration
indeed the glazes may be thicker than the outline.
Verso is Johnsons' with their patent locking mechanism
but has the embossed Sherwin brand and logo. Johnsons
continued with the Sherwins brand for artistic tiles for
a short while after they took over Sherwins in 1911.
