A great Art Nouveau design, rounded and charming, rather like a chubby baby. Very rare innovative glaze with an an extremely fine raised web-like texture and an iridescent lustre that shows as flourescent greens and pinks when caught in the light.

Wades are well known for their decorative pottery and figures, especially their whimsies, but their status as a major player in the turn of the century tile market is largely overlooked. They took a similar approach to tile making as they did their pottery being amongst the most innovative in terms of design and glaze technology in the two decades either side of 1900. They are certainly for quality and style in the top five major Art Nouveau tile producers and their range of coloured glazes was rivalled only by Marsdens and Maws.

One medium edge chip general roughness to tip of the edges. Some rubbing on the high spots but very fine and consistent and not so detracting as the lustre takes the eye.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
