This tile has a celadon coloured body which is quite unusual, Sherwins used it for earlier examples of this pattern but latterly used a celadon coloured glaze over a typical off-white body. One of the earlier examples of the bold floral pattern within an aesthetic border which became very popular a few years later thanks in part to The Decorative Art Tile Company's explosion of designs and following on from W B Simpson. Pleasing colours including a touch of opaque white on the petal tips to contrast with the celadon clay. Adding the six painted colours to the celadon clay and the brown print gives a total of eight colours which was very ambitious for a tile of it's day, it was apparently recognised for that and was well accepted in the marketplace.

The back is quite clean and a faint large traingle and Staffordshire Knot embossed marks, printed design registration number and pattern number.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
