A near invisible hairline crack from just below
the top of the left side to the left shoulder in
this strong porcelain tile of no threat and the
tile rings true. A group of very tiny chips around
the bottom left corner, very tiny chip bottom right
corner, other very minor marks, Surface is
excellent apart from a couple of light scratches
across his leg. Style: Medieval arts & crafts
picture A great picture tile in the arts & crafts
taste of a minstrel seated on a stool between
two sunflowers lost in the music. Most unusually
matt glazed and in hushed tones and with the
pure white body first painted in a cream
background, quite rare decorating style for the
times. Good subtlety and gradients in the
painting as typical for Copeland not the usual
print & tint colour wash. A more typical
blue printed example is illustrated in Lockett
on page 190. The body is handmade porcelain of tile
thickness, combed and stamped Copeland.
