A super floral design embossed and indented in quite high relief and in a good range of natural colours. In some ways a progression from Sherwin's very popular barbotine tiles of the 1880s in which similar mottled glaze colouring to the background was often used.

This design is more often seen made by Corn Brothers, usually the Corn Bros example is seen in three or four typical greens, yellows etc, we have a less common example with red flowers here, perhaps they copied it when it was out of copyright. This Sherwin example has much more depth and detail in the moulding than the Corn examples.

Condition: Excellent
Price: £85 (approx $170)
Ref: 02255

There's roughness on the tips of the edges, mostly the sides, and some light surface marks mostly near the edges. The glazes are bright and attractive.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
