Mintons Handpainted Bird Tiles
Style/technique: Naturalistic birds handpainted Manufacturer: Mintons China Works Dimensions: 8" x 8" Date: circa 1880   A super set of four handpainted tiles featuring naturalistic birds on branches of flowering plants. Enamel painted on Mintons China Works biscuit they may not have been decorated at the Mintons factory but at an independent tile decorators. Removed from furniture so very clean the four are available individually to suit individual tastes and preferences.

The grey enamel has crazed and some small pieces have come away, there's also a chip on the brown enamel of the bird's breast and a few other minor marks to the enamel. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 570 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
