A bold aesthetic design, one of a handful of gothic inspired near abstract aesthetic patterns that appeared around 1884. The floral elements are less recognisable, more stylised, and the black on white contrast enhances the effect.

These are hearth quality tiles near half an inch thick and have been on used hearth.

There are a few chips on the bottom edge and one just up the right edge otherwise the edges are excellent. The surface has numerous scratches and other marks which for the most part can not be seen unless caught in the light.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
