Good full design that fills the tile, bold flowerhead, leaves reaching out to the four corners and complex sinuous whiplash stems, all highly stylised yet retaining a naturalistic feel. Excellent design, full yet not overwhelming, stylised but not unfriendly.

A rare true Victorian art nouveau design, the design registered and this tile made in the first few months of 1900 so not quite 19thC but Victoria reigned until 22 January 1901.

Plain barred verso with lock rings and 'registered' embossed indicating an early batch when the design had been sent to the patent office for registration but the number not yet received. Registration number 357241 and pattern number known from other examples.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
