Three very tiny rim chips, one minute surface
chip otherwise perfect, prefectly clean and the
most brilliant of glazes. Style/technique: Art nouveau majolica A great art nouveau design, an early example,
one of the rare victorian art nouveau tile
designs being registered in May 1900. Full art
nouveau yet still showing influences of arts
& crafts design, fills the tile without
being overbearing. Fabulous brilliant glazes,
this design seen from time to time these colours
and glazes the best I have seen it in. Plain generic barred versos with lock rings
and rubber stamped pattern number and embossed
'registered' indicating manufacture in the
summer of 1900 before the registration number
had been received by the company. Therefore a
true victorian (Queen Victoria died 22 January
1901) art nouveau tile for despite the oft used
phrase 'victorian art nouveau' 99% or more is
actually edwardian or later. Three very tiny, three minute rim chips, surface
condition is as new. Spotlessly clean with
fantastic brilliance in the glazes.
