Minton Hollins Aesthetic Bird Printed Tile
Style/technique: Pictorial Print Manufacturer: Minton Hollins Dimensions: 6" x 6" Date: Circa 1880   One of a series of twelve birds each within a different aesthetic border, super designs of the times. Made in a variety of colour combinations, quite possibly a dozen or more, it would be fascinating to collect all twelve birds in twelve different colourways. This a cream clay with a fine dark brown print and block printed grey-green background. Possibly designed by E W Godwin but John Bradburn is also a contender especially as he worked for Minton Hollins during the appropriate period designing mostly aesthetic floral patterns but also some with birds. Bradburn did some pictoral designs for E Smith.
Condition: Very good Price: £115 (approx $225) Ref: 02662 Chip middle left edge, a couple of other tiny chips, a little light roughness to the tips of the edges. Surface has a few very light scratches not visible unless you try and find them by tilting the tile to the light. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
