Floral Majolica Tile
Style/technique: Floral majolica Manufacturer: Carter & Co Dimensions: 6" x 6" Date: circa 1900   A luscious bold floral design in resplendent colours from this famour pottery. Designs like this floral majolica with raised outlines and big bold flowerheads were popular in the last few years of the 19thC, given the colour this may be early 20thC. Verso has characteristic grid with embossed number 1051 which may or may not be the pattern number.
Condition: Very good Price: £70 (approx $140) Ref: 02663 Small chip top right corner and a couple of tiny/minute edge chips, a little scuffing on the highest point near the centre and about half a dozen very tiny chips/wear to the outline, other extremely minor surface marks. There is a blow in the glaze near the centre and bubbling along the bottom edge from about an inch up the left and tapering away before the right corner. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
