A view of Tissington Spires, Dovedale in The Peak District National Park, Derbyshire. From a series of designs presumably made on trivets for the tourist giftware market as they predominently are of locations in the Peak District (near to Stoke on Trent), Edinburgh, Stratford upon Avon etc - surprisingly none of London. Engraved by William Wise or perhaps Swetnam is more likely.

Mintons China Works rarely coloured in prints on tiles or pot stands which is unfortunate as they take to colouring particularly well. Many were apparently designed to be coloured as they are shown coloured in the pattern book and some details like foliage which often comes across as rather dominant in pure print is more suitably muted when overpainted.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
