Art Nouveau Majolica Tile
Style/technique: Art nouveau majolica Manufacturer: Marsden Tile Co Pattern number K403X Dimensions: 6" x 6" Date: circa 1905 Colours: 3   A bold design that fills the tile, good flowing leaves and contrasting vertical stems to the upper leaves, big, bold flowerhead (presumably another poppy!) in great blue with a rich green heart. Another strong and uncommon design from Marsden who produced a higher proportion of aggressively stylised and dramatic designs than any other company in the art nouveau period. Verso quite clean with Marsden style bars and stamped pattern number.
Condition: Very good Price: £110 (approx $290) Ref: 02765 Chip bottom right corner is quite well out of the way and not too obvious for a design that fills the tile. A couple of tiny corner chips, a touch of roughness to the top edge and a few minute edge chips. One very tiny surface chips otherwise the surface condition is near perfect with excellent brilliance in the glazes. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
