Art Nouveau Majolica Tile
Style/technique: Art nouveau majolica Manufacturer: Minton Hollins Pattern number: 1537 Dimensions: 6" x 6" Date: circa 1905 Colours: 4 A good, bold design from Minton Hollins, a perfectly round mackintosh style rose makes a sort of boss dead centre of the tile, it is well embossed and yet has a deeply indented centre. Nice blue background and good orange to the rose, dusky pink centre and green leaves which have merged a little with the blue background. This may have been an intentional effect as it is always seen on this design and Minton Hollins often used high outlines to contain the glazes on their moulded art nouveau tiles. Perfectly clean verso fully named as usual but with additional embossed pattern number.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
