Art Nouveau Majolica Tile
Style/technique: Art nouveau majolica Manufacturer: J & W Wade Dimensions: 6" x 6" Date: circa 1905 Colours: 4   A great art nouveau design that fills the tile cleverly designed with a border outline that is part of the design as the outer edges of the leaves. In rich glazes with an excellent shaded blue main flower and bright blue buds. Wade are famous for their pottery but not well recognised for their tiles although they are in the top few art nouveau tile makers for quality of design and colours and glazes.
Condition: Fine Price: £110 (approx $215) Ref: 02773 Removed from furniture the edges are perfect but there is a line of wear across the tile about a third of the way up as if that was the level of the spout on the washstand jug or rim of the bowl so a little wear/chipping to the outline and touches of rubbing to the high points at that level. The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
