A nice majolica tile panel, in bright natural colours. Five tile panels are mostly associated with fireplaces as more of them have survived than wall tiles, they often had duplicated tiles so that the height of the panels could be varied to suit. Panels were usually four to six tiles high for dados depending on the size of skirting tiles and use of borders and friezes, this could be used as a three tile panel too.

There are interesting very small manufacturing flaws on the outline of the duplicated tiles which shows there was a problem with the mould rather than damage in handling.

Versos have the usual Boote greyhound and laurel badge.

Condition: Very good
Price: £185 (approx $380)
Ref: #02787

Generally very good condition, a few edge chips but mostly small and away from the focus at the bottom of the panel. The bottom tile also has a couple of scratches and there are a few tiny chips and wear on the outline but for the most part the surface is excellent. Very clean and excellent brilliance in the glazes.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
