Condition: Fine Two tiny corner chips, two
very light scratches, other very minor marks,
perfectly clean and outstanding brilliance in the
glazes. Lea of Tunstall (Lea & Boulton) are an
underrated company, little is known about them,
they even have been described as 'shadowy'. Most
marked tiles we find from them are excellent, they
patented their own unique process(es) and were one
of a handful of companies that produced gilt and
stencilled slip tiles, it is suspected that they
made tiles for some of the major brand names. Verso slightly sooty, slight mortar residue,
L.T. and England embossed, painted pattern

half a dozen tiny patches of surface wear, other

cropped close to the edges so that the edges can
easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly
spotted. Other marks described are usually not
visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as
one normally sees it and can only be seen with a
critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch
imperfections in reflected light. For more details
of how we describe marks see Condition.
