Aesthetic Floral Majolica Tile

  • Style/technique: Floral majolica
  • Manufacturer: Henry Ollivant
  • Pattern number: 647/11
  • Dimensions: 6" x 6"
  • Date: circa 1900

A pretty floral tile with a bold floral arrangement and complex aesthetic design moulded in to the background. Ollivant's tiles tend to be slightly heavier than many, generally excellently moulded and brilliant glazes, the company produced a limited range of designs but mostly excellent.

Versos a bit stained and grubby but no adhesive residue, embossed C O V and England with pattern number written in glaze. This design being in quite high relief almost always has some wear especially where the design breaks through the border and goes right up to the edge of the tile creating high points where the frame is.

Condition: Good
Price: £45 (approx $85)
Ref: 02895

Chip bottom left corner, other tiny edge chips/roughness, two very small and one very tiny surface chips but not too noticable, the excellent relief and highly brilliant glazes command the attention.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
