Art Nouveau Majolica Tile
Style/technique: Art nouveau majolica Manufacturer: Godwin & Hewitt Dimensions: 6" x 6" Date: Design registered 1906 An absolutely fabulous design, bold, stylish and exuding quality. I know a lot of people will say it's only one colour and the design doesn't reach the edges but to them I say go and buy an ordinary chipped de Morgan tile for three times the price - sorry I couldn't resist! Just fabulous style, lovely prussian blue, wonderful. The Godwin name isn't worth added value today but when this tile was made Godwin's were amongst the most expensive tiles, on a 1905 price list featuring about eight major manufacturers their single tiles are joint highest price and their panels the dearest, having seen many examples of their wares I can understand why.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
