A well known art nouveau design almost invariably monochrome, green, brown, red, blue etc, rare in multicolour. And what an amazing colour combination, olive ground with turquoise and orange peacock eyes and outlines painted in black.

The olive ground is very translucent and the colour well represented here in the picture, other examples of this design seen in colous which at first appear similar have a rather more ordinary green ground.

Widely attributed to Lewis Day but we are not sure that is the case, too long to go in to here but for starters Day famously loathed art nouveau. The design made by Corn Bros, (both of them) Richards (ie Corn Bros under a different name) and Pilkington. No matter, it's a fabulous tile irrespective of who designed it.

Verso Richards diagonal bars, no adhesive residue just a little grubby.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format and on screen is about the size as it would be in real life at the same distance. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
