Condition Report
One very tiny and a couple of minute edge chips,
slight staining in the crazing near the right edge,
mark from the fireplace frame near the bottom right
corner otherwise surface condition is near perfect.
A wonderful tile with brilliant red and great
glazes.

This tile is one of a small group of fabulous
asymmetric art nouveau designs made by Richards in
1907 the design the most popular of the group and
made in many colourways. This is colourway 26 and
what excellent colour with a great example of
Richards red for the background, their reds were
amongst the best.
Asymmetrical art nouveau designs are one of the
most difficult styles to master, the flow of the
line in such elegant and light design has to be
just perfect. It is so much easier to achieve
balance in a symmetrical design, literally one half
is the mirror image of the other, asymmetric
designs are at least four times as difficult to
successfully achieve.
Verso clean but some sooting with design
registration number and pattern number.
