A super floral tile of wild roses with a printed
chocolate brown background that gives a great
contrast, coloured with four colours. Such floral
tiles with shaded backgrounds are relatively
uncommon and in interesting niche for collectors.
Solid colour printing is generally assumed to be
block printed but by the late 19thC lithographic
printing could achieve sold colours too as this
example.
* The design was registered to Wm Henry
Micklethwait who were ironfounders from Rotheram
and who had at least a few dozen designs made for
them by various manufacturers such as Sherwin &
Cotton and The Decorative Art Tile Co, this
apparently by Booth or Woolliscroft.
Verso slightly smoke stained, standard grid,
printed registration number indistinct but
decipherable.
