A rare opportunity to purchase quantities of border tiles designed by Pugin and decorated in bright colours. Two block printed colours with further enamel painting of the 'gold' and lighter green.

Fabulous for use in combination with bolder Pugin and/or Dresser style designs at a fraction of the cost of 6" x 6" etc tiles or even just as borders surrounding panels of plain tiles. The design on the 6" x 3" tiles will mitre perfectly to form corners.

The pattern numbers indicate origination of the designs at the original Minton & Co prior to the split in to two companies and around 1860. Being made by Mintons China Works these will be 1870 or later, the designs continue to appear in catalogues for several years, certainly as late as 1892.

All previous adhesive/mortar/grout residue has been removed from versos and edges, some further cleaning is required so it is likely to be a few weeks from this writing before they are all ready.

All are marked Mintons China Works, Stoke on Trent, all of the 6" x 3" are on purpose made biscuit, most of the 6" x 2" are on purpose made bisuit though some are 6" x 3" trimmed to size before decorating and glazing.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. Customers may request a larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format for closer inspection which will be sent by email.
