A classic example of excellent design. When
looking for universal appeal the designer has to
appeal to many tastes and here the designer has
been successful. Though late 19thC we see the
two predominant styles of the edwardian era, art
nouveau and neo-classical, there is also a nod
to aesthetic and arts & crafts. The design
also works well as an individual tile and as a
pilaster, frieze or panel, truly a work of
genius.
Selected by Barnard for the inside covers of
the first modern era book on tile collecting and
history it surely was a good choice.
Understandably a popular design and one we see
quite frequently in a variety of colours this
example being in one of Minton's many blues on a
very pale cream ground.
Verso extremely clean, fully named, clear
printed pattern number and design registration
number.
