A fabulous, bold, high relief floral art nouveau design that fills the tile. Characteristic whiplash lines to the stems and leaves, a very demonstrative tile.

Carter made a small range of art nouveau tiles indeed they may well have subcontracted manufacture to Maw & Co. Often bold designs that fill the tile with high relief and so rarely found fitted in to fireplaces or furniture from whence most good tiles come. This was a wall tile and had half an inch of very tough portland cement well stuck to it, it is the only one we have.

The design is in the Carter catalogue on a page of 'New Art' designs with number 1086 and which also includes tile 03048.

Verso moulded as face to give consistent thickness for added durability. The number 1673 appears on several Carter designs and is not a pattern number.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
