Four tiny rim chips, speck bottom left is
manufacturing flaw, surface is near perfect. Very
clean and brilliant glazes. Style/technique: Art nouveau
majolica A super Art Nouveau tile with six or seven
good colours including mauve and pink in the
flower. I say six or seven colours as the pink
highlights on the mauve are due to the mauve
breaking down in the kiln, whether this effect
was intended is unknown, rather like much arts
& crafts wares which were trial and error
and the final result unpredictable and ranging
from bad to good and from awful to amazing. From
late in the art nouveau period the design
registered in the first few months of 1911, one
of the last pure art nouveau designs of verified
date. Versos perfectly clean, embossed England and
design registration number, painted pattern
number. Two tiny rim chips, speck just below centre
right is manufacturing flaw, surface is near
perfect. Very clean and brilliant glazes. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430
pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format.. A
larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG
format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than
cropped close to the edges so that the edges can
easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly
spotted. Other marks described are usually not
visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as
one normally sees it and can only be seen with a
critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch
imperfections in reflected light. For more details
of how we describe marks see Condition.
