There's a couple of very light scratches,
invisible unless held just so to catch them in the
light, marks upper right edge are glazing
imperfections.. Style/technique: Japonesque print A fabulous design for tile, a perfect
embodiment of ornament. Quintessentially
japonesque, blossom settled on the cracked ice
of a pond, nature in still life, winter into
spring, serenity. The kind of design that may be
overlooked but when given due credit there is a
wealth of interest. Such is the essence of good
ornament, it should merge in to the background
to avoid conflict with the activities of life
but withstand scrutiny and afford pleasure when
time permits. Well printed in a nice shade of
blue on Minton Hollins top quality biscuit and
with only minor glazing imperfections. Design registration for 1876 indicates that
this is an early tile, registration lozenge not
entirely legible but identifiable when compared
with the records. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430
pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format, a
larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG
format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than
cropped close to the edges so that the edges can
easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly
spotted. Other marks described are usually not
visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as
one normally sees it and can only be seen with a
critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch
imperfections in reflected light. For more details
of how we describe marks see Condition.
