Very tiny chip top right corner, very tiny glaze
chip just above bottom right corner, two specks
near the top are kiln dirty. Perfectly clean and
brilliantly glazed. Style: Art
nouveau A super art nouveau design, a bit mainstream,
a bit easy going but that means
nonconfrontational and with broad appeal. The
design fills the tile but with plenty of white
space so not overbearing, the focal point of the
design is optimally positioned, the colours are
very pleasant, overall the design is very well
thought out. Verso very clean, a little worn from removal
of adhesive. * There were at least three companies with
Corn in the name and two Corn Bros. E. R. Corn
who started the tile business in 1891 said of
the transfer of the busness to the new Pinnox
Works in 1903, "at the same time, the existence
of two other concerns bearing the family name
-"Corn Bros." and "Corn Bros. & Co." -
having led to confusion, the name of W. & E.
Corn was allowed to lapse and the firm became
"The Henry Richards Tile Company Limited".
