Top corners trimmed for the original
installation, lower right edge is a manufacturing
flaw, glaze ran over the edge and stuck to
something else in the kiln, surface is near perfect
with just tiny patches of very slight rubbing to
the high points on the flower/buds.
Style/technique: Art Nouveau
majolica A superb tile moulded in high relief and
decorated with wonderful colours. Very well
decorated too, no outline or channels to contain
the glaze, lovely and smooth in design and
moulding. The design dates from late 1901 so in
Richards first year of production and an early
art nouveau tile in any case. Seen from time to
time most often monochrome and also with an
autumn colours pallette it is absolutely
fabulous in this rare colourway. Verso very clean, embossed registration
number and England, pattern number rubber
stamped. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430
pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format, a
larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG
format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than
cropped close to the edges so that the edges can
easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly
spotted. Other marks described are usually not
visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as
one normally sees it and can only be seen with a
critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch
imperfections in reflected light. For more details
of how we describe marks see Condition.
