Very tiny chip bottom left corner, minute chip just below top right corner, four minute glaze losses. Very minor surface marks, you have to seek them out, wonderful glaze brilliance.

Style/technique: Art Nouveau majolica
Manufacturer: H A Ollivant
Dimensions: 6" x 6"
Date: circa 1905

A classic art nouveau design, flower and two buds, erect stems the side stems branching in to flowing movement, this design also made by Richards and almost indistiguishable. Fabulous and rare colours, amongst the most desirable for art nouveau and majolica collectors with the rich blue and deep red, super bright yellow/green for the stems and leaves. Especially rare colours for Ollivant too one would expect Richards, only the second blue ground tile I can recall seeing by Ollivant. A tile that will stand out in many collections perhaps even holding the pride of place.

H A Ollivant are one of the smaller manufacturers producing a rather limited range of design likely less than one thousand in nearly two decades. Many super designs from their transfer printed patterns onwards their majolicas are especially great on par with the best of of the better known manufacturers and often with exception quality moulding.

Verso very clean, a little smoke stain along one edge, COV and England embossed, pattern number written in glaze indicating colourway 22, I have seen but a few so maybe more wonderful colours to be discovered. But these are rare and this is the only one we have for sale.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format, a larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
