Art Nouveau Tiles

The tiles shown here are pure Art Nouveau or have clear Art Nouveau elements. As with any style the definition gets blurred, artists take different paths and have different influences, traditional styles are blended with modern styles to create something unique. Nevertheless style is a matter of taste and opinion so some folks may disagree with some of our selection : ). Art Nouveau itself has several distinctly different sub-divisions and differing interpretations by different designers, for example the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh have little in common with those of Charles Voysey.

Most tiles are majolica though there are examples of other decorating techniques.

We may have more of a particular pattern/series than shown as it is not always possible to list all together. Please ask if you require several matching tiles, more than 4 or 5 in very good or better condition is unusual.

Do you enjoy art nouveau design? See the '1001 Art Nouveau Tiles' CD with over one thousand high quality images of original English Art Nouveau tiles.

 

 

The CD contains high quality images of over a thousand original English Art Nouveau tiles dating from the period 1899 - 1920. Most are six inch square tiles, some are three inches by six inches and there are a few other less common sizes too. Most are individual tiles but there are a some multiple tile panels too.
